THIS IS BEING PREPARED THE WEEK OF JULY 1, 2024
HAPPY CANADA DAY!
HAPPY CANADA DAY!
This picture reminded us of so many of you and where you live. Thanks for your faithfulness during life's difficult times. The Lord loves you and he loves your families. Never forget that His promise is from 'generation to generation' Just like the trees in BC
THE DEEPER THE ROOTS, THE STRONGER THE TREE.
Now lets have some fun while getting ready for a 50th anniversary celebration next may!
Today its a simple guessing game. We are showing a few pictures to determine who knows the people and the place. Take your guesses. As you continue to send pictures (please keep it up) lots of people are getting excited to send even more pictures. Hoping you will do just that.
So what we will do is share the picture, give a few clues, and ask that you respond to the email. Some of these are not that old and others might be considered 'ancient' by our younger folks. Here we go:

Clues: airplane, flying high counselors to the furthest points of Vancouver island. Spent time in lots of other places in the world, but loves Vancouver Island
Clues: Nanaimo family. Music was their world. (maybe next time I will send a recording and that will make it easier) . Hey, if you can't figure this one out, ask Sister Murray in Sydney for more clues.
Clues: think Port Alberni. Think more than a few years ago. Ask a member of the Ruttan family for some help.
Ok, just a couple more.
Clues: I believe that when Elder Packer came to create the Victoria Stake in 1975, he came on the ferry Trying to verify that. Some of you might know. Please give us some details.Clues: Special reward next month for the first one to get this couple. He owned a fish food restaurant in Utah. He spent a lot of time for 3 years in Alaska and British Columbia. Actually purchased this home for the church while in BC. Any ideas yet??
Clues: 2 missionaries, a father, and one of his sons. Dads name is Milton. This is Duncan and it is the cultural hall behind the church (our church had purchased an old Catholic church. Picture probably taken around 1971. Any takers?
Has an incredible family. Plays computer games
with his mouth! Moved to Vancouver not too long ago.
If you can't figure it out, you could
ask Barnards in the Victoria 1st ward.
so 2 things:
1. PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL, EVEN IF JUST TO SAY HELLO. WE CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO MISS ANYONE.
2. PLEASE SEND THIS EMAIL AND THE PICTURES ON TO THOSE WHO SHOULD BE INCLUDED. LETS GET THE WORD OUT.
We are hoping that we can have some fun with this as we continue to serve one another in this wonderful world we all live in.

Hi, Bro. & Sis. Johnson - I remember having some great afternoons discussing the Victoria Stake with you, while you were serving here on the Island ! My first "encounter" with the Church was in the autumn of 1965 when 2
ReplyDeleteElders came to my door on a wild & rainy day & they gave me - very apologetically - a soaking wet Book of Mormon, their last copy, which they had dropped into a large puddle. I accepted it & asked if they could return another day, as my 2 very young children were sitting in their high chairs waiting for lunch ! They obliged me
& said they would make a second visit. I put said Book on the shelf of the coat closet, & forgot it until they phoned me some time later. I felt bad about not reading it, so gave it a very quick "once-over" & the Book fell open to Moroni, chapter 8, stating little children have no need of repentance or baptism. This was a miracle for me, in that my younger sister had lost her baby boy to SIDS - sudden infant death syndrome, & the agony I went through as I knew her baby had not been baptised ! Her husband was serving in the RCN & was sailing to Japan, so she was all alone, but for her immediate family. She found the child "blue" & phoned for an ambulance, which took him to St. Joseph's hospital. I phoned the hospital ( which was Catholic ) & asked if a priest could baptise the baby without my sister being involved, as I knew what a fragile state she was in. They had it done & it calmed me down, & when I told my sister, she was very grateful. Somehow, it didn't sit well with me, that this innocent baby, a few months old, would have been "unacceptable" to God without baptism! The Elders came to visit me that day & I explained my "blinding revelation", which began a long discussion, about the Prophet Joseph, & the Book of Mormon. The more they told me the more convinced I was of the great truths they were telling me ! Well, needless to say, my husband was less than appreciative of my "conversion", with out his knowledge ! We had many weeks ( & months ) of tension in our home, but finally the Lord helped me convince my husband he was being "unfair" by not at least listening to the Elders. Well, this began many discussions, with many Elders, & until one of his favourite Elders, broke down in tears, & told him they had given him all that they possibly could, that my husband relented & agreed that we could both be baptised ! There was still plenty of "opposition" before our baptisms, but we managed to stay close to the Lord & finally became members of the True Gospel ! We were baptised in August of 1966. The Quadra Chapel was a very small building, & we would have to set up folding chairs to have Sacrament meeting & then reverse the process....to be continued. Brenda Vogler, Sidney Ward.
